Artists’ General Benevolent Institution

Headquarter offices and art gallery for Artists' General Benevolent Institution (AGBI) in Pimlico Conservation Area.

Formerly based in the Royal Academy the AGBI sought new purpose-designed facilities for staff and trustees to operate effectively within a central London location. We have completed the redevelopment which reconfigures two floors of a historic townhouse creating spaces for display, consultation, archive and administration. Two upper floors were developed to create a contemporary duplex apartment.

The AGBI was founded in 1814 by members of the Royal Academy of Arts including J.M.W. Turner, John Constable and John Soane and was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1842. It is one of the oldest charities in the United Kingdom.
