Landforms
Barcelona/Venice
Completed: 2003
Partner in Charge / Project Architect / Design Principal: Robin Lee
Landforms was commissioned by The Lighthouse to promote contemporary Scottish architecture and approaches to making buildings in a range of landscape settings across the country. It opened at the Metroom in Barcelona in September 2003 and traveled to Venice in 2004 where it represented Scotland at the Venice Biennale.
In addition to the curation of the exhibition a bespoke a design was created which allowed it to travel and be accommodated within a wide range of gallery spaces in Europe.
Drawing inspiration from the Scottish parliament’s architect Enric Miralles’ observations about Scotland, Landforms explores the relationship between Scotland’s landscapes and its contemporary architecture.
To link the 17 projects back to the distinct and various landscapes in which they are located an 8m long datum constructed in Douglas Fir bench was introduced as a central element around which the projects were organised.
